The role of the police has always been an interest to the average citizen. The television media has capitalized upon this curiosity with shows such as "Cops", "America's Most Wanted", and "Stories of the Highway Patrol". Each week, real police action is broadcast into the living rooms of millions of Americans. Numerous police agencies have also benefited from the curiosity that citizens have about the police. These agencies have formed Citizen Police Academy programs that create an expansion of their community-based efforts. These programs are intended to open the lines of communication between the Community and the Police Department. Generally, the relationship between the police and the citizen is one of "love/hate". To the citizen, it may frequently appear that the police are not doing their job or are exceeding their boundaries. By allowing citizens a firsthand look at what rules, regulations, and policies the police follow, some of the misunderstandings may be alleviated. The objective of the Citizen Police Academy is not to train an individual to be a "Reserve Police Officer" but to produce informed citizens. The citizens and police officers meet each other face to face in a neutral, friendly setting and each becomes a person to the other. In the past, citizens have simply seen a uniform, now they have an understanding of the person behind the badge.

Junior Citizen Police Academy

The Jr. Citizen Police Academy (CPA) covers many aspects of law enforcement with classroom instruction, hands-on training, scenarios, and more!  Instructors are officers with expertise in specialized areas.  The Jr. CPA is available to middle school students entering 7th and 8th grade.  This four-day program is held during the summer months to allow a fun and unique learning experience for the youth. 

Registration is required, with a parent or guardian signed permission.  Class size is limited.

 The next class will be held at the Hudson Police Department, 101 Vine Street, City of Hudson on Monday, July 7, 2025, through Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Hudson Police Cadet Program

Open to motivated youth ages 14–21, the Hudson Police Cadet Program offers an exciting, hands-on introduction to the world of law enforcement. Cadets participate in scenario-based training, field trips, guest speaker sessions, and community service projects, all designed to build real-life skills and confidence.

Throughout the program, participants work closely with Hudson police officers, gaining firsthand insight into police work while developing strong leadership qualities. This experience promotes personal growth through character development, respect for constitutional and criminal law, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be an engaged, responsible citizen.

National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.  Our National Night Out will provide free fun activities and freewill donation food. We will have live music and a dunk tank to dunk a cop!  The event is held in Lakefront Park on the first Tuesday in August, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

St. Croix County Medication Disposal Program

St Croix County residents are encouraged to bring expired, unwanted or unused medications to collection locations throughout the county for proper disposal. The St Croix County Sheriff's Department in coordination with ten local police departments will accept old or unneeded prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.

This program is anonymous and there is no cost to drop off medications.

Participants must place unwanted medications into plastic zip-top bags.

Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, medicated liquids, inhalers, sprays, and pet medications. Liquids, creams, gels, etc. can remain in their original container; remove name or label and place in a zip-top plastic bag.

The program will not accept sharps, oxygen tanks, nebulizers, radioactive cancer medications or mercury thermometers.

If you have medications you no longer need or want, this is a great opportunity to safely dispose of them. Proper disposal of medication keeps potential contaminants out of our water supply and keeps drugs that can be misused away from those who would abuse them.

Homeland Security Investigations Victim Notification Program 

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), is committed to protecting the public and ensuring that the rights of victims are carefully observed. HSI administers the Victim Notification Program which allows eligible victims and witnesses to obtain reliable and timely information regarding a criminal alien's release from custody. However, victims and witnesses are required to register in order to receive notification of a criminal alien's release.
